Volunteer: JFS Giving GardenAbout 1,500 households visit the Polack Food Bank each month. The Food Bank operates a consumer-choice model where clients choose products according to their personal needs and preferences. Our goal is to provide people the food and toiletries they need with the dignity they deserve. One way the Food Bank receives fresh produce is by growing fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs in the JFS Giving Garden located across the street from the Seattle campus. Shifts: Varied. Once a volunteer is vetted, they will have access to the schedule calendar and can self-select their shift(s) and task(s). Shifts will be offered on both the weekdays and weekends.Responsibilities: Tasks could include:WateringWeedingHarvest produce and take to the Food BankGeneral site maintenanceRequirements: Age 18 or older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Shifts: Tuesdays or Wednesdays:Either 2pm – 3pm or 3pm – 4pm Some Sundays depending on availability. Deliveries are made every 2 weeks.Shifts scheduled in advance (consistent times & dates each month preferred).Responsibilities: Assemble delivery bags in the Polack Food Bank at the JFS Capitol Hill Campus (1601 16th Ave, Seattle, 98122).Give the delivery recipient or caseworker at least two days’ notice before delivering.Deliver groceries during designated times, except during Jewish holidays.Complete necessary paperwork for each pickup.Follow contractual agreement as outlined in “Procedure for Home Delivery Food Bank.”Requirements: Age 18 or older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. On-call volunteers support our operations by filling in for volunteer shifts on as-needed basis. Commitment: Typical shifts take place on: Wednesdays, 9:45 a.m. – 12:15pm Thursdays, 1:45 – 4:15 p.m. Fridays, 9:45 a.m. – 12:15pm On-call volunteers join our mailing list to receive emails advertising our open shifts from week to week. Volunteers can sign up for available shifts as available by replying over email.Responsibilities (may include): Arrive at Food Bank no later than 15 minutes prior to opening.Distribute food and toiletries as selected by shopping guests. Restocking items as needed. Light clean up after shopping is complete. Welcome guests through the Food Bank entrance, maintaining the flow of guests into/out of the waiting area they proceed into Food Bank and new guests enter.Hand out face masks to any guests not wearing one upon entry.Notify Food Bank staff of any questions/concerns needing to be brought to their attention.Requirements: Age 18 or older.
