Volunteer: Shabbat Meal Delivery

Our Shabbat Meal Delivery program provides two kosher meals each month to community members who are part of our Older Adult Services, Supportive Living Services, and Community Stabilization Services programs.

Volunteers are needed to pick up and deliver these meals to homes on a designated route. We ask that you make sure you can commit to all delivery dates below before signing up. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us!  

Commitment: 

Deliver to households pre-assigned to you. Assignments will be based on your preferred neighborhood whenever possible.  Delivery dates2025: June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25, August 8, August 22, September 5, September 19, October 10, October 24, November 7, November 21, December 5, December 12 

Responsibilities: 

Pick up the meals from UW Hillel (4745 17th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98105) at the designated dates and times.  Call the households to let them know you are on your way to drop off their meals. Complete the meal deliveries using up-to-date health and safety standards.Let Volunteer Coordinator know if you are not feeling well or have COVID-like symptoms so we can find a substitute for your route.  

Requirements: 

Age 18 or older, or accompanied by a parent or guardian. A personal vehicle is required for this position.   Current Washington State driver’s license and vehicle insurance.  Reliability and punctuality. Successful completion of volunteer application process.

Volunteer: Mitzvah Meals for Medical Visitors

Our Mitzvah Meals for Medical Visitors program provides community connection and support to Jewish individuals and/or families who are staying in Seattle while seeking medical care. Participants receive home cooked, kosher-style meals delivered by volunteers each week.

Volunteers support this program by signing up for meal-preparation and delivery shifts while patients are receiving care. Thank you for helping provide a supporting hand to our medical visitors!

Commitment: 

Join the Mitzvah Meals volunteer mailing list - when volunteers are needed for meal deliveries, shift details will be sent out to volunteers via email to sign up. Volunteers to opt into any shifts they’d like. There’s no requirement that a volunteer must participate each time. Reliably prepare and deliver meals for recipient(s) on dates signed up for.

Responsibilities: 

Sign up for meal-preparation and delivery shifts as needed and as you are available.Prepare kosher-style (no shellfish, pork or mixing meat and dairy) meals in your home kitchen prior to your designated deliveries, following any allergy/dietary restrictions needed.Call recipient(s) or their contact person to confirm when you plan to deliver their meals.Deliver meals to recipient(s) on your scheduled date(s).Communicate with JFS staff if you are not feeling well, have been exposed to illness, or will be unable to provide your meal as planned.

Requirements: 

Age 18 or older. Volunteers under 18 may participate and attend deliveries along with an adult parent/guardian.Reliable transportation to make the deliveries. Punctuality. Successful completion of volunteer application process, including liability form and volunteer handbook.Understanding of volunteer/client boundaries and confidentiality requirements.
